What to do if there is a main break
When main breaks occur on our system, our crews work around the clock, in
all types of weather to make the needed repairs and restore service as
quickly as possible. While repairs are being made, however, customers may
experience temporary low pressure, no water and/or discolored water. Below
are some helpful tips on what you can do if a main break occurs in your
area. If you are a home-dialysis patient, please contact us and speak to a
customer service representative.
Customer Tips
-
If you experience discolored water, simply run the cold water for 15 to
20 minutes until it clear after the repairs are completed.
-
Check for discolored water before using the washing machine or
dishwasher. Wait until the water runs clear at the tap before doing
laundry or running the dishwasher.
-
If your laundry becomes stained, DO NOT PUT YOUR LAUNDRY IN THE DRYER.
Rewash clothes immediately using detergent and add a rust remover. Most
rust removers can also be used on stained fixtures.
-
If water pressure or water volume seems low after flushing has been
completed, check your faucet screens for trapped particles.
